Dear followers,
Red is fully immersed in its next creation, BONECOS, which will premiere on December 7th and 8th at Teatro Aveirense (co-producer), as part of Aveiro being the Portuguese Capital of Culture 2024. This creation is supported by Direção Geral das Artes/ Governo de Portugal – Cultura, Aveiro Municipality, in partnership with the Festival Internacional de Marionetas do Porto (FIMP), Museu da Marioneta de Lisboa (Lisbon Puppet Museum)) and the Esgueira Parish Council.
BONECOS is a creation that aims to absorb various cultural influences through a dive into African-origin tales and fragments of memories surrounding traditional popular culture with Portuguese, European, and African puppets. By exploring a documentary nature, the process incorporates “new” and “old” technologies for a multi-format show, in an evolutionary and circular process involving the entire team.
Throughout the creation process, Red will be sharing rehearsals, promoting discussions in various locations, and, as usual within the scope of the Educational Service, will present a masterclass at ATLAS – Aveiro Municipal Library with guest artists and/or researchers. We will provide all the information during September.
Regarding the creative process of BONECOS, on October 16th at 7:00 PM, we will be at WIP – Work in Progress (FIMP’24).

September closes the *Motus Imago* ’24 cycle
To wrap up the 2024 cycle of Motus Imago – puppets, shapes and things in motion, we’ll be ending September with a bang, offering several events in the city of Aveiro. If the program’s name itself wasn’t already inspiring, Red couldn’t conclude this year’s cycle without embracing the experimental, visual, and musical character, while simultaneously continuing to promote traditional and popular forms of puppetry. These forms increasingly seem like an inseparable starting point for creation. We begin the end (of the cycle) with three school-based activities featuring traditional puppetry for the younger audience. But teenagers and adults are not left out. Still revolving around traditional forms, the puppet show “O vendedor de cacetadas” will be presented at Espaço Red Cloud Teatro de Marionetas, on September 20th at 9:30 PM by the family company from Évora “Era Uma Vez, Marionetas”. Founded in 1991 by José Carlos Alegria, the company has been joined since 2000 by his two children, Carlos Miguel Meira Alegria and Ana Margarida Meira Alegria.
On September 21st at 7:30 PM, at Mercado do Peixe (Aveiro), will be the premiere of the sound and visual performance “Octave” by Pedro Cardoso, a musician and sound designer, and filmmaker José Pires, both from Vila Real.
From September 19th to 22nd, two short films created and produced by Red Cloud Teatro de Marionetas, “Dromoscopic” and “Between People V.1.1” will be available online (those who register will receive the link).
